Q&A: Trading

Thursday, 24 October 2024:

"Good evening, I have a few questions.

Are there any calls for soybeans that look as good as the March call for corn?

Also, I assume you can sell these calls any time before the expiration date?

Do you guys recommend any type of app that you can buy/sell futures, calls, puts, etc? I would not mind using a broker, but we are not currently set up with a broker and I am not sure how to locate a trustworthy one. So, I thought maybe an app or online doing it myself might be easier to just start playing with it in small increments.

Thank you for your time.  JB"

JB, no, I do not see any bean calls I like as much as I liked that $4.20 March corn call for 19¢. But the January $10.00 soybean call for 35¢ looks like it is worth the money. January beans settled at $10.05 yesterday, so that call was 5¢ in-the-money. It will expire on 27 December. If South America weather is problematic, buy a March call in late December.

All CBOT options can be bought, sold, or exercised any business day up until it expires.

If you do not know the letter designation for each futures month, the difference between a stop order, a limit order, a GTC order, a stop limit order, an open order, or the definition of a “tic,” the value of a tic, what is the difference between initial margin and maintenance margin, you are not ready to trade futures on your desktop or cell phone.

We do know three brokers who are absolutely trustworthy and will work with you to learn all that information. We can send you those brokers' contact information list if you wish.
