Kamala Harris wants to tax “unrealized profits.” If you bought land for $5,000 and it is now worth $11,000 and you still own it, you have $6,000 per acre of “unrealized profit.” If the land was sold for $11,000, you would have $6,000 of “realized profit” because that $6,000 is in your bank or under the mattress. If you contracted 2025 wheat at $7.40, you have about $2 a bushel of “unrealized profit” which you would need to plan on paying the income tax even if not delivered and value not paid to you.
